Badge of Honor:

It’s 1864. The California Gold Rush is over, but twelve-year-old Jem Coulter and his sister Ellie are sure they can pan more gold from Cripple Creek. Then their father becomes sheriff of lawless Goldtown, and Jem’s life begins to unravel. For sure his pa will be a target for outlaws! Soon, the creek mysteriously dries up, along with Jem’s hopes of finding gold. His prospector friend Strike has also vanished. Jem sets out to find some answers but instead plunges himself and his family into danger. Will the silver star on Pa’s chest prove to be a target? Or will it convince Jem that it is truly a badge of honor?
