One of the 28th
A Tale of Waterloo and the Final Defeat of Napoleon
By G. A. Henty
Narrative:
Ralph Conway is captured by a privateer and has many adventures in the Caribbean. Returning home, he and his friend Stapleton join the 28th Regiment, fight in Ireland, and in 1815 embark for Belgium to fight the French. The armies of the Duke of Wellington and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte finally meet in the decisive Battle of Waterloo in Flanders. When the smoke cleared over 47,000 lay on the field either dead or wounded. Napoleon is exiled to Elba and a relative peace of 40 years settled on Europe until the Crimean War.
